Anchor in The Storm: Waves of Freedom Book 2 By Sarah Sundin

I received this book from Litfuse Publicity for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions explained here are my own.

Book Description:

For plucky Lillian Avery, America's entry into World War II means a chance to prove herself as a pharmacist in Boston. The challenges of her new job energize her. But society boy Ensign Archer Vandenberg's attentions only annoy---even if he is her brother's best friend.

During the darkest days of the war, Arch's destroyer hunts German U-boats in vain as the submarines sink dozens of merchant ships along the East Coast. Still shaken by battles at sea, Arch notices his men also struggle with their nerves---and with drowsiness. Could there be a link to the large prescriptions for sedatives Lillian has filled? The two work together to answer that question, but can Arch ever earn Lillian's trust and affection?

Sarah Sundin brings World War II to life, offering readers an intense experience they won't soon forget.

My Thoughts:

Anchor in The Storm is the second book in Sarah Sundin's series, Waves of Freedom, and it is FANTASTIC.  I had the joy of reading the first book in this great series, Through Waters Deep, so having this opportunity was great.  I am a huge fan of Christian Historical Fiction and Sarah Sundin's books.  Sarah Sundin writes with authority about World War II, the world during this time, the military especially the Navy, medical terminology, and pharmacy practises. I learned more about WW II in this book. Sarah Sundin weaves the perfect balance of fact and fiction for her readers.  From the start, this book grabbed ahold of me and kept me guessing until the end, I could not put it down. Being book two, Anchor in The Storm introduced us to new characters but also gave us a deeper look into old friends from the first book. I loved the characters in this book especially Lillian Avery. She is a very strong young woman, looking to make her way in the world. Lillian decided long ago she would never fall in love, that no one could love her due to her disability. She uproots her life to move to Boston to follow her career path of being a pharmacist. I understood her in so many ways, especially in her disability. I found inspiration in her growth as a person to loving herself and opening herself up to God and all he has given her. Plus of course her crime fighting skills. I found myself full of emotion as I read this story from laughing out loud to crying to holding my breath. I found comfort in the faith journeys through this book especially Hebrews 6:19: This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil. This verse helped both Lillian and Arch through their troubles and helped them to find one another. This verse and book is one that will stay with me for a while. A wonderful help through any trials. I truly enjoyed this book and cannot wait for Book Three. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction, you will not be disappointed. I give this book 5 STARS
