Domination: Book #3 in The C.H.O.A.S. Trilogy By Jon S. Lewis

I received this book from Booksneeze.com for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are solely mine.

Book Description:

Domination is book #3 in the C.H.A.O.S trilogy. Please note that certain plot points and characters might be a continuation from the prior books in the series.

Their goal is simple: total domination.
With six arms and jaws that can snap a man in two, the warmongering race of aliens known as the Thule has conquered every planet they’ve attacked.
And now their invasion of Earth has begun.
Humanity’s only hope springs from a mysterious Thule legend about a Betrayer, who they believe will rise up and destroy their people. The American government tried to manufacture their own Betrayer by injecting children with Thule blood but time after time the experiment failed . . . until Colt McAlister.
A decade later, Colt is a 16-year-old cadet at the CHAOS Military Academy where he’s training to defend mankind. But he’s afraid that the alien blood may be turning him into a Thule—and he’s beginning to suspect that fulfilling his role as the Betrayer may cost him everything.
Experience a cosmic battle filled with high-tech gear, gateways to other planets, and ultimate stakes. Not everyone will survive. But heroes will rise up and step into their destiny in this earth-shaking conclusion to the C.H.A.O.S trilogy.

My Thoughts:

Domination is Jon S. Lewiss third and final book in his C.H.O.A.S Series. I have had the joy of reading all three of these books, so it is bittersweet that this wraps up the series. Domination picks up where the second book, Invasion, leaves readers.  The earth is being invaded by aliens, Thules to be exact.  These six armed creatures are killing machines and they have spent years conquering other planets and now its Earth they have set their sights on. Colt McAlister is said to be "The Betrayer", who will rise up and destroy all the Thule. The government injected Cole and other children with Thule alien blood, hoping to create the legendary Betrayer, he fears that he might be turning more Thule than human. Cole's destiny as The Betrayer may cost him more than just his life - it could very well cost him his identity and his soul.  Colt is a 16 year old boy who lost both is parents and is living with his grandfather, the Original Phantom Flyer, a comic book character, who in real life did all the things the comics stated.  Colt has been asked to step into this Grandfather's shoes as the Phantom Flyer and save humanity.

The C.H.O.A.S. Trilogy is a young adult science fiction dystopian series that follows CHAOS Military Cadet and teenage hero Colt McAlister as he continues to help fight the alien race that threatens to eradicate the Earth and wipe out humanity. Jon Lewis writes an action packed, suspenseful ending to this trilogy.  I could not put it down once I started reading.  The intense physical and emotional  action keeps you on your toes.  I do recommend reading the books in order, because there is a lot that is missed if you read them stand alone.  Jon Lewis does a good job to help readers not feel lost if they haven't read the others. It was great to follow up with old friends and meet new friends in this book and to see how they all turn out.  I truly enjoyed this series, even though it is not my typical reading material but from the beginning I was hooked.  If you enjoy Christian Fiction/Science Fiction, I highly recommend them.  They may be labeled young adult but don't let that dissuade you. I look forward to seeing what Jon S. Lewis has in store for us readers next.  I give this book 4 Stars.

The Face of the Earth By Deborah Raney And A Party!

I received this book from Litfuse Publicity for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Book Description:
What if she never came home . . . ?

When Mitchell Brannon’s beloved wife sets off for home after a conference, he has no idea that his life is about to change forever. Mitch returns from work early that evening, surprised that Jill’s car isn’t in the garage. But her voice on the answering machine makes him smile. “Hey, babe, I’m just now checking out of the hotel, but I’ll stop and pick up something for dinner. Love you.” Hours later, Jill still hasn’t returned, and Mitch’s irritation turns to dread.

When the police come up empty, Mitch enlists the help of their next-door neighbor, Jill’s best friend, Shelley, to help search. As hours turn into days and days into weeks, Mitch and Shelley’s friendship grows ever closer—and decidedly more complicated. Every lead seems to be a dead end, and Mitch wonders how he can honor the vows he made to a woman who has seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth.

My Thoughts:

The Face of the Earth is the fourth book of Deborah Raney's I have had the joy of reading.  In The Face of the Earth Jill Brannon attends a conference for work out of town, on the day she is to return, she doesn't make it home. The last contact her husband had was a message she left saying she was leaving and would pick up some groceries and head home. As the night goes on, Mitch, Jill's husband, finds himself sick with worry.  Finally he calls the police and Jill's best friend, Shelley, who has been their next door neighbor for years comes over to help. With no leads and no idea of anything the police and Jill's family and friends continue to search.  As weeks and months go on Mitch doesn't know if Jill is alive and left him or if she died and no one has found her yet.  Also as Mitch and Shelley spend more and more time together their relationship becomes much more complicated because each one of them has feelings for the other.

The Face of the Earth is a wonderfully written book that grabbed me from the first chapter until the very end. The mystery and suspense truly keeps you going until the end.  As I read this book, I could really empathize with Jill's husband. As I read, I could feel the panic and heartbreak Mitch felt, the helplessness.  Deborah Raney did an excellent job writing real characters that didn't have all the right answers or solutions.  I truly enjoyed this latest book by Deborah Raney. I found myself laughing and crying during my journey with these characters. As I read, I truly felt like I was there, watching this all unfold and taking part in it, if even in a small way.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction! You won't be disappointed. I look forward to reading more from Deborah Raney!   I give this book 4.5 Stars.

Sleeping in Eden By Nicole Baart

I received this book from Howard Books for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Book Description:

On a chilly morning in the Northwest Iowa town of Blackhawk, Dr. Lucas Hudson is filling in for the vacationing coroner on a seemingly open-and-shut suicide case. His own life is crumbling around him, but when he unearths the body of a woman buried in the barn floor beneath the hanging corpse, he realizes this terrible discovery could change everything. Lucas is almost certain the remains belong to Angela Sparks, the missing daughter of the man whose lifeless body dangles from a rope above.  When Angela went missing years earlier, he and his wife never really believed she was just another teenage runaway.  Fueled by passion, Lucas resolves to uncover the details of Angela’s suspected death, to bring some closure to their small community and to his wife. But his obsession may not be able to fix what is broken, and Lucas may be chasing shadows…

Years before Lucas ever set foot in Blackhawk, Meg Painter met Dylan Reid. It was the summer before high school and the two quickly became inseparable. Although Jess, Meg’s older neighbor, was the safe choice, she couldn’t let go of Dylan and the history they shared no matter how hard she tried. Caught in a web of jealousy and deceit that spiraled out of control, Meg’s choices in the past ultimately collide with Lucas’s investigation in the present, weaving together a taut story of unspoken secrets and the raw, complex passions of innocence
lost.

My Thoughts:

Sleeping in Eden is the first book by Nicole Baart I have read and what can I say? WOW!! When I read the synopsis before requesting it, I HAD to request it, definitely sounded like a book for me.  And WOW it was.  Sleeping in Eden is told from two different perspectives in two different times. We read from Lucas Hudson's standpoint in the present dealing with a suicide and a murder.  We also read from Meg Painter's standpoint from over a decade ago in a different town. Nicole Baart transports readers seamlessly through the different time periods and in one moment, BOOM, both worlds collide in a way that is hard to believe.

Nicole Baart weaves a haunting story of mystery and love.  As I read Sleeping in Eden I truly felt like I was there watching the events unfold. The characters are well written and real people with imperfect lives.  I could not put this book down, it grabbed me from the first chapter and kept a hold of me until the end. This book took many twists and turns, and kept me guessing until the end. Sleeping in Eden is one of those stories that will stay with me, the storyline truly touched me and held on. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy Christian Fiction/Mystery/Suspense. You will not be disappointed. I have found a new author to read! Nicole Baart's books are in my HAVE TO READ pile. I look forward to reading her other books.  I give this book 5 Stars.

Roses Have Thorns: A Novel of Elizabeth I By Sandra Byrd

I received this book from Howard Books for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Book Description:

From the acclaimed author of To Die For comes a stirring novel told that sheds new light on Elizabeth I and her court.

Like Philippa Gregory and Alison Weir, Sandra Byrd has attracted countless fans for evoking the complexity, grandeur, and brutality of the Tudor period. In her latest tour de force, she poses the question: What happens when serving a queen may cost you your marriage--or your life?

In 1565, seventeen-year-old Elin von Snakenborg leaves Sweden on a treacherous journey to England. Her fiance has fallen in love with her sister and her dowry money has been gambled away, but ahead of her lies an adventure that will take her to the dizzying heights of Tudor power. Transformed through marriage into Helena, the Marchioness of Northampton, she becomes the highest-ranking woman in Elizabeth's circle. But in a court that is surrounded by Catholic enemies who plot the queen's downfall, Helena is forced to choose between her unyielding monarch and the husband she's not sure she can trust--a choice that will provoke catastrophic consequences.

Vividly conjuring the years leading up to the beheading of Mary Queen of Scots, Roses Have Thorns is a brilliant exploration of treason, both to the realm and to the heart.

My Thoughts:

Roses Have Thorns is the third novel by Sandra Byrd that I have had the pleasure of reading.  The two novels prior to this one are wonderful books and Roses Have Thorns does not disappoint. In this latest novel, Sandra Byrd focuses on Elizabeth I reign of England.  The main character is Elin von Snakenborg, from Sweden who leaves home as part of royalty court from Sweden.  Once there Elin decides that she will stay, having a position with Elizabeth I court.  Elin changes her name to Helena and finds herself The Marchioness of Northampton, marrying a man she loved. Helena is the highest ranking woman in Elizabeth's Court and Helena continues to serve as part of Elizabeth's inner circle.  During this time,Mary Queen of Scots, employs anyone who will help her carry out killing Elizabeth.

Roses Have Thorns is a wonderful novel. After reading the other two novels, I could not wait for this latest installment. I am a huge fan of historical fiction and after reading the first book in Sandra Byrd's Tudor Series, To Die For: A Novel of Anne Boleyn, I became very intriqued by The Tudor Period. Sandra Byrd writes with authority on this time period and all that is involved with it. While being works for fiction, there is much history throughout this novel.  I found myself unable to put this novel down.  I did have a little trouble keeping track of all the names of people in this one but it got better as I continued.  I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction, especially The Tudor Period. Roses Have Thorns can be read as a stand alone novel but I highly suggest reading the other two novels, they are awesome.I cannot wait to read the next installment of Sandra Byrd's Tudor Series.  I give this book 4.5 stars.
