Starving Hearts: Triangular Trade Trilogy Book 1 By Janine Mendenhall

I received this book from Litfuse Publicity and the author for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Book Description:

Since her assault, Miss Annette Chetwynd has been plagued by nightmares and worries about an arranged marriage. But she yearns to find her anonymous rescuer. Unfortunately, her health and intellect prevent it. Both repel suitors and cause Annette to doubt God's existence, at least until He answers her prayers in an unusual way...

Mr. Peter Adsley is joining the clergy, and he desires a godly wife by his side. After a failed attempt to obtain one, he engages in a clandestine meeting with the bewitching young woman who keeps crossing his path. But she is so unsettling.

Destined for disappointments, Peter and Annette both endure disgraceful situations. Will Peter s faith sustain him through overwhelming setbacks? Can Annette overcome her doubts? Or will their starving hearts yield to the machinations of a mad man?

My Thoughts:

Starving Hearts is the first book in the Triangular Trade Trilogy by Janine Mendenhall and it is wonderful. I absolutely love reading debut authors and Christian Historical Fiction so this book was right up my alley. Janine Medenhall's debut is just fantastic! From start to finish this book kept me interested and guessing until the end. This book took many twists and turns. This story has a little bit of everything to offer, action, suspense, romance, and heart break. Janine Mendenhall writes with authority about our world during the time this story takes place especially England, hierarchy, family duties, clergy, boarding schools, courting, health issues and their perceptions, domestic violence at this time, and slavery. Besides my draw to this book for its content, I was truly taken with the cover and the characters on it! I found myself drawn to everything.  I found the characters in this story to be complex and intriguing.  I have to say my favorite character is Annette Chetwynd. She is a very intelligent woman who has no interest in marrying for status as her mother wants. She has a beautiful relationship with her father. Her mother is indifferent to her and while her father is away, showers Annette with ultimatums and mean spirited things meant to break her spirit, but Annette never let it get to her. She continued to do what it was she needed to do. Her faith and love of Peter Adsley is a pure, real love. I could relate to her on many levels including being ill, not being perfect. I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish. Because of Annette and Peter's relationship I found myself laughing in places and crying in others. I was completely taken in by this story. I have found another must read author in Janine Mendenhall. I cannot wait to read more from her!! I loved this book!! I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction, you will not be disappointed. I give this book 5+ STARS.
