My Thoughts: 

Danger on The Ranch is the latest Love Inspired Suspense book by Dana Mentink and it is WOW. This book is part of her new series, Roughwater Ranch Cowboy. As a fan of Dana Mentink and of Christian Suspense I couldn't wait to read this book. I haven't read many Love Inspired books but I am glad I did!! Dana Mentink writes with authority about US Marshals, ranching, animals especially horses, and serial killers. I love Dana Mentink's style of writing, she puts her readers right there in the book, experiencing everything the characters do. The characters in this book are well written and very real people dealing with extraordinary circumstances. I enjoyed reading Mitch's story. I found myself unable to put this book down, definitely fast paced, intense, and full of suspense.I cannot wait to read about the other characters on the Roughwater Ranch.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Suspense, you will NOT be disappointed.  I give this book 5 STARS.

My Thoughts:  

More Than Words Can Say is the latest book in Karen Witemeyer's Patchwork Family series and it is great. As a fan of Christian Historical Fiction, I have had the pleasure of reading a book or two of Karen Witemeyer's so I was excited to read this one.  I did not realize at first this book was the second in a series until after I read it. Karen Witemeyer's style of writing made it easy to read this book as a stand alone. I enjoyed reading about Abigail and Zacharias and watching their love come softly. Abigail and Zacharias were definitely my favorite characters. What started as a marriage of convenience I found myself wrapped up in the progress of their romance and their faith in the face of adversity.  I found myself unable to to put this book down, from start to finish, I found myself wanting more. I truly felt the different emotions in this book. I found myself crying in parts, laughing in others, and holding my breath in the others. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction, you will not be disappointed. I cannot wait to read more from Karen Witemeyer.
I give this book 5 STARS.

Settings – Real or Imagined?

One of the key decisions an author has to make before she begins to write is selecting the setting for her story. And the first choice she faces is the question of whether to use a real or imagined location. Roughly half the stories I have written are set in fictional towns. The use of a fictional setting allows an author greater freedom to manipulate the environment of her characters to fit her plot. This provides a great deal of flexibility. However, there is something special about setting a story in a real place. First, readers who are familiar with that place never fail to get excited about seeing a town they recognize in print. Second, if an author can find historical photos and documents, she can add a wonderful layer of authenticity to her setting that might otherwise be missing. Third, an author may turn up fascinating tidbits when studying the history of her setting that find their way into the story and bring a flavor the author never could have supplied on her own. This was the case as I wrote More Than Words Can Say. All of the stories in my Patchwork Family series have been set in real places. Pecan Gap, Texas for More Than Meets the Eye, Honey Grove, Texas for More Than Words Can Say, and coming this fall we’ll travel to Gainesville, Texas for the concluding novella, More Than a Pretty Face. Researching each location brought its own unique discoveries, but I have to admit that researching the small town of Honey Grove brought this history-loving girl a special level of joy. For example, there is a legend about how the town got its name that I knew needed to be incorporated into my story. Legend has it that when Davy Crockett was on his way to join the fight at the Alamo, he stopped in a grove of trees and set up camp. There were so many bees in that in letters to family and friends, he called the place a “Honey Grove.” He carved his initials into one of the trees and intended to return and settle there after the war. Unfortunately, as we know, Crockett did not survive the Alamo and therefore did not return. One of his friends, Samuel A. Erwin, later found the grove and became the first settler in 1839. Many people recall seeing the initials carved into Crockett’s bee tree even into the early 1900s, which led me to believe that this legend was based in truth. It doesn’t play a pivotal role in my story, but if you watch for it, you’ll find it mentioned. Discovering the Honey Grove Preservation League’s website proved a tremendous boon. Their online historical resources are some of the best I have ever come across. Historical photos, newspaper articles, government records—it was like stepping through a time portal every time I visited. And I visited often. Thanks to the Preservation League, I was able to mention real people and places in my novel. Places like the Commercial Hotel, the home of James Gilmer that was built during my time period, Wilkins, Wood & Patteson Dry Goods, and Dora Galbraith Patteson’s millinery shop on the east side of the town square. While Zacharias Hamilton and Reuben Sinclair are completely fictitious characters, there really was a lumberyard located on the corner of Sixth Street and Rail Road. As fiction authors are wont to do, I did take a few liberties with Honey Grove’s history. To my knowledge, there was never any city ordinance banning women from owning businesses in town, which was a key plot point in More Than Words Can Say. In addition, Mayor Chester Longfellow was a complete invention of my imagination. The true mayor of Honey Grove during this time period was J.H. Smith, a man who served in that capacity from 1888-1897. He must have been a well-loved city official to hold office for nearly a decade. I paid brief homage to him by having him step back into office when my fictitious mayor resigned. I hope you enjoy stepping back in time with me into historic Honey Grove, Texas. Zach and Abigail might not have lived there in truth, but I like to believe their tale is a representation of the many amazing love stories have taken place in that sweet little town through the years.

My Thoughts:

Summer By The Tides is the latest book by Denise Hunter and it is great! I have had the pleasure of reading books by Denise Hunter, so I was excited to have the chance to read more from this wonderful author. As a fan of Christian Fiction this book hit the spot!! Denise Hunter writes with authority about North Carolina especially Sea Haven, family secrets, family struggles, sisters, running restaurants, marinas and boats, sailing, and of course the beach.  I find Denise Hunter's style of writing to be spectacular.  Denise Hunter has the unique gift of being able to seamlessly transitions between past and future. I also felt like I was there in the middle of the book. part of this story, part of these characters lives.  The characters in this book are real people dealing with real life problems. I loved all the characters in this book, especially the 3 sisters and of course their Gram. I could relate to them all but I found myself connected most with Nora. Nora is the oldest of 3 and feels that the responsibilities fall only to her. She puts on a good face in public, even though in private her life is falling apart. As the oldest of 3 this hit home for me. All the secrets kept and how just one leads ultimately to disaster.  I could NOT put this book down especially since I felt the sea breezes and the sun and felt myself there on the deck working on the house.  I absolutely loved the front cover art. The themes throughout this book are faith, love, and forgiveness. These are powerful themes throughout in each characters life. This book would make a GREAT summer read , whether you are by beach or sitting and reading in the sunshine where ever you live! I truly enjoyed this book and of course this author. I cannot wait to read books by Denise Hunter, may even a second book to written for this book. (HINT, HINT)!
I give this book 5 STARS

MADDY MONROE WAS COWERING behind a ficus tree near the hostess station when her cell phone rang. Her hands shook as she silenced the phone before it drew the attention of the staff. She jabbed the elevator button for the third time. “Come on, come on.” A star could be born in interstellar space, a polar valley carved by a glacier in the time it took the elevator to reach this floor. Stairs were not an option, as she was on the twentieth floor of the Waterford building and sporting heels. She sniffled. Drat. She seemed to be crying. She swiped a hand under her eyes, heedless of her makeup. She heard voices, Nick’s boisterous laugh. Maddy shrank deeper into the ficus and finally, finally, the elevator dinged its arrival. “Maddy?” Noelle’s concerned voice tunneled down the hall. “Maddy, wait.” “Oh, come on,” she muttered, tapping her fingers against her leg until the gold doors crept open. As soon as she could fit, she squeezed inside and punched the ground-floor button. She didn’t draw a breath until the doors sealed and the elevator began to drop. My Thoughts:

A Marvelous Redeemer is the latest and the last book in Aleigha C. Israel's A Light For Christ Trilogy and it is good. Aleigha Israel is a new to me author and I love to read new to me authors.
A Marvelous Redeemer is a Christian Romance and is definitely an appropriate YA Christian Fiction. I personally have not read the first two books in this trilogy and it took me a minute to catch up. Aleigha Israel did a great job of writing this book as a stand alone. I definitely want to read the first two books to truly understand the other stories. The characters in this book are real people dealing with real issues, the biggest issue being the persecution of Christians during the 1800's when Christianity wasn't understood. I loved Amira and Caleb's story and their strong belief in Christ. Their faith is admirable in the face of such adversity.  Aleigha Israel puts her readers right there in the story. I really felt like I was there watching this story unfold. This book really put me through many emotions, happy in places, sad in others, and concern. I recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction, including YA Christian Fiction, you will not be disappointed. I am excited to read more from Aleigha Israel. I give this book 4 STARS.

The Pages of Her Life: By James L. Rubart

I received this book from Celebrate Lit Blogging Program and the author for no charge in exchange for my honest review of this book. The opinions expressed here are my own.


Book Description: 

 Allison Moore is making it. Barely. The Seattle architecture firm she started with her best friend is struggling, but at least they’re free from the games played by the corporate world. She’s gotten over her divorce. And while her dad’s recent passing is tough, their relationship had never been easy.
Then the bomb drops. Her dad was living a secret life and left her mom in massive debt.
As Allison scrambles to help her mom find a way out, she’s given a journal, anonymously, during a visit to her favorite coffee shop. The pressure to rescue her mom mounts, and Allison pours her fears and heartache into the journal.
But then the unexplainable happens. The words in the journal, her words, begin to disappear. And new ones fill the empty spaces—words that force her to look at everything she knows about herself in a new light.

My Thoughts: 

The Pages of Her Life is the latest book by James L. Rubart and it blew my mind it was so good. I am a fan of James L. Rubart and I have to say this has to be my favorite book from him. This book is a Biblical Fiction story, which is a genre I am very selective about reading. I have a few authors that I read that write these types of books and James L. Rubart is one of the few. I love the cover of this book, very ominous and makes you want to read it. James L. Rubart writes with authority on architecture, running a business, the Bible, Biblical prophecies, secrets and their effects of them, loan shark business, journalimg,, doing what you can do family, and speaking the truth to the dry bones. 
I found myself unable to put this book down once I started it. I enjoy James L Rubart's style of writing, he puts his readers right there in the thick of it, seeing things from the different characters. 
All of the characters in this book are well written and well developed. They felt like real people dealing with real life situations. I found myself drawn to Allison. I can relate to her on many levels. Her journey is admirable, as is her spirit. I loved how God showed her the right path and that she and her brother both were impacted greatly by God and His love. I cannot say enough good about this book. It is one that will stay with me. It impacted me on many levels and I find myself thinking on these things quite frequently since finishing the book.  I highly recommend this book and author to anyone who enjoys Biblical Fiction or Christian Fiction, you will NOT be disappointed. I cannot wait to read more books from James L. Rubart. I give this book 5 STARS.
